ChangeMakers Summer Leadership Institute provides youth with the opportunity to develop as leaders, critical thinkers, and community activists. ChangeMakers is designed for young people who are interested in participating in a progressive, youth-led social justice movement. Youth learn about GLBTQ history, systems of oppression, different organizing strategies, and increase their political consciousness to better understand local, regional and state policy priorities. Youth also develop advocacy projects specific to their community needs.
Supportive community-based groups are offered to GLBTQ youth throughout Miami-Dade County. This is a confidential and safe space for youth to discuss experiences, feelings, and ideas with their peers in affirming environments. Groups are also available to families of GLBTQ youth in need of peer support.
Confidential, one-on-one, affirming, short-term counseling focused on supporting GLBTQ youth in exploring mental health or crisis needs.
Prevention education trainings are designed to prevent negative health outcomes that are caused by discrimination and stigma of GLBTQ identity, to increase knowledge of GLBTQ youth issues, and to create strategies to effectively intervene harassing/ bullying behaviors. Trainings are tailored to the setting and the audience needs.
Project SAFE - safe accommodations for everyone - is a collaborative effort to address GLBTQ youth homelessness in Miami-Dade County. The purpose is to provide:
